It is truly amazing that so
many people who were thrust
into a foreign country without any choice have still managed to stay in contact
after almost 35 years.
We all formed special bonds and held on to each other. We had been ripped from school to school and in most cases from country to country. Our fathers and/or mothe rs were contracted "Warriors" and we were with them as they performed their duties.
This experience of "isolation" in a strange land has made us very unique in that not only did we have a chance to discover new lands and cultures but we also established untold bonds with our friends at that time and we longed to keep those bonds as we grew up and lived our lives.
As we are now in our "middle ages", I think we all have a strong inner desire to reach out to the ones whom we once had these bonds and see if our friendships still exist. And if they do exist, per chance meet and reminisce, rekindle, renew and most of all rejoice that after so much time we still have our health our freedom and our lifelong friends. I will continue to seek out my friends from those Alconbury days and God willing I will be able to stay in contact with the friends I have now.
Throughout the years many people have worked to maintain contact with people from our unique experience together and it seems there are more now than ever that have a deep desire to meet. However with today's technology if we cannot meet in person we can reach out many other ways.
Having reunions is wonderful but having a dynamic "Place" where we can communicate by sharing pictures, chatting with our friends no matter where they are in the world, sharing experiences both past and present(BLOG), and having a lifelong "Community" is the most important thing in this world.
This site is not a BLOG this is a Community! This is a unique opportunity to maintain friendships for life! We are getting older and cannot expect everyone to be able to attend reunions but with this site we certainly can maintain lifelong and frequent communications with our friends.
In closing I would like to
encourage everyone to participate and enjoy our new community. And to say
that this site has brightened my life in so many ways I can't even list
them and I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for affording
us this special opportunity by dedicating your time and resources to this
magnificent place.
